CHILDBIRTH CLASSES
"In most situations and for most people, natural childbirth is the safest way to have a baby. Women should be encouraged to trust their bodies in the birth process and myths about natural childbirth should be dispelled. They should be given the tools to achieve a natural birth, if that is what they desire, and should be equipped with knowledge to make informed decisions about their birth. This knowledge should include a full understanding of the risks of interventions and medications, as well as their benefits in certain situations. Education should not involve guilt but should empower women to choose the kind of birth that is best for them, be it medicated or unmedicated, intervention-free or full of traditional interventions." -----CAPPAs Philosophy and Position on Childbirth ********************************************************************* Private Childbirth Classes I only offer private classes at the current time because I believe that women and their partners learn more from one on one teaching. There is less embarrassment and more time for you’re your specific needs. Private classes are taught in your home or mine at your convenience! This is an excellent option for professional couples who need to fit comprehensive childbirth education into their schedules. This schedule is available no matter what your needs: VBAC, bed-rest, or busy! There is limited space for this option. Book early! $175 for 4
class series We have a lot
of fun during class and I am happy to provide a list of references for you to
contact. We cover the prenatal
period, testing during this time, the mechanics of labor and birth, comfort
measures, breastfeeding, baby care, the postpartum period and much more. You are provided with many handouts,
a handbook of labor and birth for you to keep and a set of 10 videos for you
to watch at home covering everything from birth to breastfeeding. The Thinking Woman’s Guide to a
Better Birth by Henci Goer is required reading for both mother and
partner. (Don’t worry guys, I’ve
found a way for it to be perfectly painless for you!) But
I can take classes the hospital for lots less. Why should I take them from you? ·
I don’t work for the
hospital, I work for you. I will
teach you evidence based medicine, not a group of doctor’s opinions. Some hospital childbirth educators
are only allowed to teach what has been sanctioned for them. I have the freedom to allow you to
hear it all. ·
My classes last as
long as they need to and can be extended on a whim because of a problem or
question that arises. They cover
exactly what you need covered.
If you have a problem or special question that comes up, fine! We can handle that first and take as
much time as we need. ·
If you’re a few
minutes late, you miss nothing!
We can change a night‘s class due to sickness or unexpected travel and
you don’t miss an important class that can’t be rescheduled. Most people end up missing one class
during the hospital series’ due to unforeseen or even planned
circumstances. What if you miss
the class on comfort measures, or the one on cesarean and you end up needing
one? You miss nothing with me. Keep in mind
this is not just my opinion, I get these comments from everyone that has
chosen private over group. My
natural birth rate with clients that I have taught is 92%. The births that didn’t proceed
naturally were due to true medical reasons that could not have been changed. Four
classes seems like a lot… When you
consider that becoming a parent is one of the most important things you’ll do
in your life, it’s not much at all.
Preparation for your birth is the most important thing you can do to
ensure your child has a healthy start in life. Think about it like this. Most people spend a year planning a large wedding. They go to several meetings with
florists, clergy, bands, decorators, wedding planners, etc. The time (and money!) spent is
inordinate. And it’s all over in
a span of about 3-5 hours. It’s
a great and wonderful day that you’ll always remember. However, once you experience the
birth of your child, you’ll realize how that experience pales in
comparison. J Birth lasts
longer and, for most women, is a little scarier and unknown. Unfortunately, our society has not
properly educated women on the natural essence of birthing. I’m sure you’ve heard tons of stories
from other women that all end with the phrase “and if we hadn’t been at the
hospital, we would have died!”
Birth doesn’t have to be like this. Four classes, I
find, provides me with the time to re-teach you all the important lessons
regarding the strength of your body, the great role of the partner, all the
normal events that involve the birthing process, and of course, the aftermath
involving breastfeeding, baby care, and the postpartum period. Birth doesn’t have to be scary! It CAN be fun! I’d love to show you how to have a wonderful, peaceful
birth!
